Soriano refuses to play outfield for Nationals

The Washington Nationals were on the field and ready to play, eight of them at least. There was only one problem: Left field was empty because Alfonso Soriano was missing. Soriano refused to play the outfield for Washington in what was supposed to be his spring training debut Monday night, and general manager Jim Bowden said his biggest offseason acquisition could go on the disqualified list if he doesn't agree to switch positions this week.

Prior to have shoulder examined

Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior will see a specialist in Los Angeles on Wednesday after cutting short a throwing session due to soreness in his right shoulder. Prior was scheduled to pitch off the mound on Tuesday, but he never got there. The shoulder flared up during long tossing. "It wasn't getting loose so we weren't going to try it," pitching coach Larry Rothschild said. The right-hander will be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum. "He had some posterior cuff irritation that obviously we need to get evaluated," trainer Mark O'Neal said.

This makes me angry and the next person who says "I told you so" about his injury, I'm going to beat them in the face until my knuckles bleed.

Calzaghe dominates Lacy

Joe Calzaghe earning a lopsided, unanimous decision over Jeff Lacy on Sunday to win the American's IBF super-middleweight title and hold on to his own WBO title for the 18th time. An underdog even with the British bookmakers to win the unification fight, the Welshman was so convincing in the 12-round fight that even Lacy nodded when Calzaghe lifted his arms aloft at the final bell. He cut Lacy around both eyes and knocked him down in the final round.

I'll be damned if this isn't a huge upset in the boxing world. I love boxing and think I know a good deal about it and I sure didn't see this one coming. Oh well at least James "Lights Out" Toney will be world champ soon after he beats down that punk Rahman.

North Carolina knocks off Duke

Perhaps it was a six-game winning streak. Perhaps it was the maturity Roy Williams has seen all season from his four star freshmen. Whatever the reason, the North Carolina coach truly felt his team could finish out the regular season with an improbable victory at Duke.
"I hope it isn't cockiness, but I told them that I thought we were the only team in the country that could come in here and win this game," Williams said. "I believed that we could if we played."

Young calls Wonderlic reports 'disrespectful'

For nearly a week, University of Texas quarterback Vince Young has had his intelligence discussed, dissected and demeaned in the wake of reported Wonderlic test scores at the NFL scouting combine. Young, who was honored Friday at the 69th annual Maxwell Award ceremonies, would not answer specific questions about the Wonderlic test but did acknowledge how upsetting the reports have been. "It hurts a little bit, and I think it's very disrespectful. But it's cool, it's cool," Young said. "I know what I can do, and I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing." Young's agent, Major Adams, brushed off criticism of Young, saying some of it was expected. "People are going to try to bring him down between the Rose Bowl and the draft day," Adams said. "They will try to take shots at him, and he hasn't done anything wrong, so we just take it with a grain of salt."

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Young led Texas to a 41-38 Rose Bowl victory over USC in college football's national championship game. He could be a potential No. 1 overall pick by the Houston Texans in next month's NFL draft. "A rumor is a rumor to me, it's just like high school, they say you kissed some girl, but you really didn't, so that's how I feel about it," said Young, referring to the reported Wonderlic test scores. Young has kept his sense of humor, and relied on advice from players like Steve McNair, who also faced his share of doubters coming out of college. He's also gotten the support of reigning NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, a fellow honoree at Friday's Maxwell Awards. "Tests are tests to me," Alexander said. "The key thing with any football player is, what can he do when he gets on the field." Scouting directors around the league have emphasized the Wonderlic is just a small part of their overall evaluation of Young, and are giving him plenty of tests of their own.

"I don't really care about the criticism, because I'm pretty much used to it," young said. "There's always something about Vince. ... I feel like I've overcome all of that, turned out pretty good, so I want to continue to do that in the NFL as well."

Cubs Wood to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery

Kerry Wood has tested his surgically-repaired right shoulder in spring training. But now he needs to take care of his right knee.Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry announced before the Cubs' Cactus League game against Seattle on Friday that Wood will need to undergo minor arthroscopic knee surgery. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday in Los Angeles. This is yet another setback for Wood, who is coming off shoulder surgery last August 31. The procedure entailed reinforcement of the labrum and debridement of the rotator cuff and bursa.

Damn! Hopefully the man can get back to Kid K form asap. Cubs in '06!!!!!!!!!!!1
